Social Justice issue: Racism Essay
Despite society’s view on racism there are still judgmental people in the world who judge one another based on skin color and appearance. Will this ever go away? Maybe, maybe not. There will always be judgmental people. Racism has been caused by very judgmental people; even kids in school are getting picked on by the color of their skin. This problem has been around for a very long time. In order to take a step in the direction of stopping racism we have to spread awareness by internet, schools and protests much for change. Living in a different country can be different especially when your cultural differences are great. Many people fear different races because of their background. Racism has taken great affect on the world. Hate crimes caused. Racism is still a big problem till this day, not only in the United States but all over the world.
Racism has become a big problem in our society and all over the world. Racism is causing hate crimes and violence. Racism in schools cause many kids to think of committing suicide because they hate themselves or to cause serious injury to the person that bullies them. It affects all aspects of the person’s life. There are many stereotypes of races. African Americans in schools are called “Nigger (a)”. When racism is acted upon, especially by a group of people, things don’t just become dangerous but deadly. Racism has been conflated with earlier forms of ethnic and national conflict. There are wars between religious conflict groups. Slavery lead to Civil war and it was the beginning of blacks joining the army. African Americans in the United States had to still struggle with institutional racism. Racism was not always about black people. It was about every race. In Cambodia, there has been a strong vietamanese sentiment. In Indonesia there has been a lot of violence against the Chinese population who has been blamed for economic problems. How would you feel about this? I would feel like I’m being blamed for everything, and think maybe its not our fault but the Indonesians fault not ours. Racism in Africa? Would think that there wouldn’t be racism there because everyone is African but there is. Numbers of nations in Africa are at civil war to gain independence. In Zimbabwe there has been increasing racism against white farmers due to poverty and lack of ownership.
Racism in schools have been becoming a big problem is society. Racist violence, harassment and abuse are closely related to bullying. Racist bullying in schools can range from remarks that are not meant to be hurtful. This can cause physical attacks causing serious damage. Racist bullying can be a problem in two ways. Children who experience it have their education disrupted causing them to not stay focused in school. Another problem is that many schools ignore this problem and give the wrong message. The success to having a multicultural society starts with children growing up without racism in them. Many people these days over exaggerate about other races backgrounds. “He confessed he was relieved when a young man walking behind him on a dark street turned out to be white”. Rev. Jesse Jackson. Jackson’s statement proves you don’t have to be white to share the fear in our society. As you can see many people judge for looks, skin color and much more like reputation of that race
What can we do to take steps in stopping racism and ending this? Schools with large ethnic minority populations have we developed policies on multicultural and anti racist education. They have clear procedures with dealing with racist incidents. Racism is everywhere. The children of the world are the next generation to make a change in the world. People are getting sick and tired of this issue. Racism has affected many people’s lives we need to take action and stop it. For instance, we could prepare websites and spread awareness for people to see what’s going on in the world and see how we can stop it. News papers can also show what’s going on since so many people buy and read them. Doing this will show people around the entire world that there are people who care and want to stop these judgmental people causing racism to spread more.
Racism is a major problem in the world. Many people have been affected by racism and are taking a stand against it. Everyone is human and for that we should be treated equally as everyone else in the world. Racism has impacted many lives over the years. People will never forget what racism has brought to the future or what happened at the past. Racism must be stopped and people need to take more action towards it. Start making a change in society and learn what racism is becoming. Everyone makes judgments about people around us based on what they see and often this skin color is the first thing they look at first. Racism comes in many ways even if we do notice it. “I have a dream my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by color of their skin but by content of their character”(Martin Luther King Jr.). This quote is saying someday everyone will hope that people will not look at others differently because of their skin color but judge you by personality.
